Moving Skype Number to Teams

I have a Skype number I use for my business. I've been told it's going to expire. It's linked to my personal Skype account. Is there any way to transfer this number over to Teams and continue using it? It will be a nightmare if I lose my Skype number.

    That is not a good answer. The correct answer is a step by step instruction as to how to port the Skype number of your Teams account. Or in the alternative, how do we set up a phone number in Teams so we can receive text messages. Skype was pretty crappy about that.

    @Scott Moyse

    As of now, there isn’t a supported way to simply “transfer” a Skype number that’s linked to a personal Skype account directly over to Microsoft Teams. Skype numbers and Teams phone numbers are treated differently within Microsoft’s ecosystem. Here’s a bit more detail:

    • Skype numbers are provided as an add‑on service for personal or consumer Skype accounts. They’re managed separately from Microsoft’s enterprise Phone System (used in Teams).

    • Microsoft Teams’ calling functionality (whether you’re using a Calling Plan, Direct Routing, or another telephony solution) requires numbers to be provisioned or ported as part of your organization’s Phone System setup. The phone numbers used in Teams typically come from carriers or are ported from eligible external providers—not directly from Skype.
