My.Computer not working in VS2022 desktop app

Hello,

I am having issues with using My.computer in my app. It generates an error that indicates that it's not defined. I know that it has something to do with the version of the .Net SDK being used in my app. Older apps that use older versions of the SDK still work. I am using version 8 of the SDK.

If there are alternate ways of gathering the information available through My.Computer I am happy to use them instead.

Any help you can provide in fixing this problem is appreciated.

Here's the offending code. I'm basically tying to gather as much information as I can about the computer/OS. If someone could tell me where Windows gets the information that it displays on the About screen that would be helpful. Any help you can provide is appreciated.

by

BrandingFormatString from Winbrand.dll

or

ProductName from registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion)

For memory, you can use WMI and Win32_OperatingSystem

there are others that are causing issues as well. My.computer is BROKEN. WMI is not an issue. I don't have any of it in my project. I don't like it and I'm not going to start using it because you guys have broken stuff and don't want to fix it. I would appreciate substantive examples of how to fix these issues, not just hints. The code should work and it doesn't. It doesn't work because you broke it. so you are obligated to help fix it Explaining where Windows gets its information from on the About screen would be a start
