Azure DNS record not resolving consistently

We have our DNS records managed within Azure and Azure Frontdoor being utilized to route traffic between our Production and Standby service. Since Friday we have had two reports that our site no longer resolves on their DNS, one customer was using Google's 8.8.8.8 and another using Fortinet's service, ironically the customer having issues with Fortinet switched to Google's and it started resolving for them.

Is there any sort of maintenance occurring that could be affecting things upstream? It seems to be giving different results for different regions. This site has been active for at least 4 years, with Azure Frontdoor being leveraged for about 6 months. This is the first time we are experiencing DNS resolution issues

    Hello Chris Herberg

I understand that you are encountering an issue while accessing the front door custom domain.

After you tested nslookup forcefully with your FortiGate server IP, you are still facing the issue.

Please check the front door health probe logs to determine if the backend is healthy during the time the issue occurs.

You can also collect the tracking reference ID (x-azure-ref) in the access logs when encountering the issue. Use this reference ID (x-azure-ref) to check logs in your Azure portal.  Please refer to the following document for collecting the logs:

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/frontdoor/refstring?source=recommendations&tabs=edge

In the meantime, please check with your internal FortiGate team.

Also, let me know when your backend is working properly.

Hope the above answer helps! Please let us know do you have any further queries.
