    Hello Chris Jones,

Thank you for posting your question in the Microsoft Q&A forum.

When Azure prevents domain purchases or custom domain deployment, the issue typically stems from subscription limitations or configuration conflicts. First, verify your subscription type supports domain services Pay-As-You-Go and Enterprise Agreements typically permit purchases, while Free/Trial tiers may restrict them. Next, ensure your account has Owner or Contributor permissions and check for spending limits that could block transactions. If the domain originates from an external registrar, confirm its availability and proper DNS linkage to Azure.

    Hi Chris,

Purchasing App Service Domains requires sufficient payment history. Exactly how much "history" is sufficient to lift the restriction is not publicly documented. Your subscription is correct type to allow purchase, you just still have restriction. Screenshot from documentation:

What I recommend is you purchase your domain from domain registrar and then you can use it with Azure App Service easily. You could have your domain(s) purchased and start configuring for use with your web apps in 15 minutes.

On the other hand you could create billing support request (billing support is free), wait for them to respond, ask them to lift the restriction on your account, and hopefully after some delay they will lift restriction and you could go ahead and purchase App Service Domain.

Whichever route you would like to take, I'm happy to help. I can get you going with buying from domain registrar and configuring your app service or I can give you detailed instructions for opening billing support case. Believe it or not you will likely (majority of people do) need detailed instructions for opening billing support case.

    -TP

@Chris Jones As its mentioned above by TP, You may want to know that App Service Domain recently introduced a policy to require sufficient payment history prior to purchasing a domain. Without any payment history, your subscription will not pass the check that will allow your subscription to purchase any domains.

Also, you need to Remove the spending limit on your subscription.

    Check this link: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/app-service/manage-custom-dns-buy-domain#buy-an-app-service-domain

Check if you have any pending payment due or due date past on that subscription. You can follow this article to check invoice: View and download your Microsoft Azure invoice

For questions related to billing or subscription, you may file a free subscription/billing support ticket, our support engineers will be able to help on such issues readily.
