Cannot log into Azure. Portal requires 6-digit code, Authenticator generates 8-digit codes

I am locked out of my Azure account as it requires a 6-digit MFA code, but Authenticator generates 8-digit. I can log in elsewhere, it's just an issue with Azure portal. I also cannot create a support ticket. I believe this is an issue that is already described here.

I called the Microsoft support in my country, and I could not find the right option to resolve this. Since this is my personal account that I am using to learn more, I would like to reset the account and start a fresh subscription with a new payment method.

I Understand that you are locked out of your azure account as it requires a 6-digit MFA code but Authenticator generates 8-digit it because your MFA registration is linked to your Personal Microsoft Account rather than your Azure work or school account.

To register with your work or school account, please visit aka.ms/mfasetup, which will redirect you to the appropriate MFA registration page for your organization.

If you are the only global administrator in the tenant and have been locked out due to incomplete MFA setup, this falls under a tenant lockout scenario. To resolve this, we need to engage the Data Protection team via a support ticket to unblock your access.

To proceed, I will need a few details from you. As this information contains Personally Identifiable Information (PII), please share the following details via private message:

Global admin email address (affected account)

The issue relates to a tenant lockout situation where no other global admin in the tenant has the necessary admin rights to re-register MFA.
