Already in use by another directory.

I am trying to add a new tenant for a new domain in azure entraid. The issue i am facing is that the this domain that i am trying to add it used to be on a cancelled azure subscription. However i close that tenant, removed the custom domain, but in my new azure tenant it keeps saying its attached to another directory.

Any ideas?

I understand that you are trying to register the Custom domain in the new EntraId tenant. But you are unable to register the custom domain because in your Entra new tenant it says its attached to another directory.Can you please provide domain name that you are trying to verify in the new tenant. Please provide the details via private message only.

Hi David,

Did you completely removed all the dependent resources and user mail ID etc that was using the custom domain in the cancelled subscription? If yes and still having issues after 24-48 hours I will suggest to raise a support case with Microsoft.
