If the original organization removes the binding with an old domain, will the work accounts that use the old domain and belong to the original organization still remain under the original organization's management?

For example, in the case of Intune, will they still be subject to the original organization's device management?

Additionally, if a new organization binds to a domain that was previously unbound by the old organization, will the work accounts using the old domain automatically associate with the new organization?

If so, if the new organization enables automatic MDM management, will devices automatically register for device management?

Removing a domain from a Microsoft 365 tenant severs that domain’s ties to that tenant but does not delete the user accounts outright if they’re first assigned a new login name (those accounts stay in the original organization’s directory and continue to be managed there). When a new organization claims that domain, it starts fresh, there is no Microsoft mechanism that shifts people or devices to the new tenant. Any migration of users or devices has to be performed manually or with migration tools (e.g. recreating accounts in the new tenant and rejoining devices). Accounts and devices remain under their original tenant’s control until an admin intentionally moves them; simply re-binding the email domain elsewhere doesn’t transfer management.

Finally, with Intune specifically: if the new tenant enables automatic MDM enrollment for Azure AD joins, then only devices that join that new tenant (with new tenant credentials) will enroll in the new Intune. Existing devices enrolled in the old Intune won’t auto-switch they’d need to be retired from the old and re-enrolled under the new tenant if a company is migrating management. This ensures there’s no surprise device takeover; everything happens according to deliberate admin actions and user reconfiguration steps.
