Is there a way to reconfigure the server after selecting an unsupported region, or do I need to start over in a supported region?

I attempted to set up a PostgreSQL Flexible Server in the East US region but encountered deployment errors because PostgreSQL Flexible Servers are not fully supported in that region.

  1. Can Azure provide better feedback or warnings during the region selection process to prevent such issues in the future?
  2. Is there a way to reconfigure the server after selecting an unsupported region, or do I need to start over in a supported region?

    Hi Moderne Edge,

I am understanding that you encountered deployment errors while attempting to set up a PostgreSQL Flexible Server in the East US region because PostgreSQL Flexible Servers are not fully supported in that region.

1.Can Azure provide better feedback or warnings during the region selection process to prevent such issues in the future?

    • Azure can improve feedback and warnings during the region selection process to prevent such issues. Currently, Azure provides some feedback mechanisms, but they may not be sufficient to prevent deployment errors due to unsupported regions.

Here are some suggestions for Azure to enhance feedback:

    • Region Compatibility Checks: Implement more robust checks during the region selection process to ensure that users are aware of unsupported regions before proceeding with deployment.
    • Detailed Error Messages: Provide detailed error messages that clearly indicate the reason for deployment failure, including unsupported regions.
    • Pre-deployment Warnings: Display warnings or alerts during the setup process if the selected region does not support the desired service.

2.Is there a way to reconfigure the server after selecting an unsupported region, or do I need to start over in a supported region?

    • Unfortunately, if you have already selected an unsupported region, you will need to start over in a supported region. Azure does not currently provide a way to reconfigure the server to a different region after deployment has failed. Here are the steps you can take:
    • Select a Supported Region: Choose a region that fully supports PostgreSQL Flexible Servers. You can refer to the list of supported regions https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/postgresql/flexible-server/how-to-resolve-capacity-errors?tabs=portal
    • Redeploy the Server: Start the deployment process again in the supported region. Ensure that all configurations are correctly set to avoid any further issues.
