Cannot login to tenants to delete obsolete tenants

Hello,

I have multiple tenants (domains) associated with my account. They were created as part of my previous training classes. I am not able to login to these tenants and delete them.

I was following the instructions documented here https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/entra/identity/users/directory-delete-howto#prepare-the-directory

Need to login to the Entra admin center:

Error code: AADSTS5000224

Error message: AADSTS5000224: We are sorry, this resource is not available. If you are seeing this message by mistake, please contact Microsoft support. Trace ID: 4ef2f4c1-763a-47ac-adec-4e994d423600 Correlation ID: 0eeee91d-1bf1-4048-a03b-d9f62feca297 Timestamp: 2025-05-02 20:53:50Z

Hi Kok-Wai,

You’re seeing AADSTS5000224 because the tenant you're trying to access is either:

Soft-deleted, expired, or

You're no longer a member or admin in that tenant.

This blocks access to Microsoft Entra Admin Center, and you can't delete or manage the tenant without Global Admin rights in it.

OK, that makes sense. But then how do I remove these obsolete tenants from my view? How do I leave them"

I don't need these tenants, and I don't have the login to them anymore. Right now I have no way to delete them.

I understand that you are trying to leave tenant which you don't want to login anymore.

You can usually leave an organization on your own without having to contact an administrator. However, in some cases this option won't be available, and you'll need to contact your tenant admin, who can delete your account in the external organization.

To leave tenant follow the below steps:

1.Within the Azure Portal navigate to your Azure Active Directory

2.Select Manage Tenants

3.Select the Tenant you want to leave and select Leave tenant. For more info - Leave an organization as an external user.

To view the organizations you belong to, first open your My Account page. You either have a work or school account created by an organization or a personal account such as for Xbox, Hotmail, or Outlook.com.

If you're using a work or school account, go to https://myaccount.microsoft.com and sign in.

If you're using a personal account or email one-time passcode, you'll need to use a My Account URL that includes your tenant's name or tenant ID, for example: https://myaccount.microsoft.com?tenantId=wingtiptoys.onmicrosoft.com or https://myaccount.microsoft.com?tenantId=ab123456-cd12-ef12-gh12-ijk123456789.

Select Organizations from the left navigation pane or select the Manage organizations link from the Organizations block.

Under Other organizations you collaborate with (or Organizations if you don't have a home organization), find the organization that you want to leave, and then select Leave.

Hello, I followed the steps to login to myaccount.microsoft.com using my personal email (not School or Work email). I have selected the Organizations and tried to click on leave for the Organizations. Unfortunately, it does not work - in the popup window after I click on Leave, I am getting into an endless loop of logins and it just timeouts.

I just want to be able to leave these defunct organizations/tenants. I don't own them.

I have provided this earlier - again these are not my tenants and I don't have any login on them at all. I don't have the admins info as well.

I just want to simply leave these tenants - should be simple without jumping through hoops.
