To delete a Recovery Services vault and its associated resource group, follow these steps:
Check for Protected Data Sources: Ensure there are no active backups or protected data sources associated with the vault. You cannot delete a vault with active backups.
Disable Soft Delete: If Multi-User Authorization (MUA) is enabled, you may need permissions to disable soft delete. More information can be found here.
Purge Soft Deleted Items: If there are soft deleted items, you need to purge them. Instructions are available here.
Stop Backup for All Items: Navigate to Backup Items under the selected vault and stop backup for each item.
Delete Backed Up Data: Delete the backed-up data for each Azure VM, SQL Server/SAP HANA in Azure VM, and Azure Files.
Clean Up Protected Servers: Ensure there are no items under Protected Servers in the Backup Infrastructure.
Delete Storage Accounts: Ensure there are no items under Storage accounts in the Backup Infrastructure.
Remove Private Endpoints: If applicable, delete all private endpoint connections listed under the Vault dashboard menu.
Delete the Resource Group: Once all resources and dependencies are cleared, you can proceed to delete the resource group.
