Unexpected billing for Azure resource group called $system which I did not create

I have been charged unexpectedly for a resource group called $system which I did not create. I tried searching it under the resource groups but unable to find. I want to avoid any further billing under this resource group and get a refund for the existing one if possible. Any help in understanding this billing issue is appreciated.

Thanks.

    Hi Nikhil B,

If you are experiencing unexpected charges for a resource group called $system that you did not create, follow below steps to resolve this issue:

Start by checking the specific charges on the invoice for anything regarding the $system resource group. This could provide hints as to what resources were consumed and whether there's a pattern or certain service driving the charges.

Use Azure's Cost Analysis feature to review your usage. You can filter through various services and check to see if there is something unusual that would account for the charges.

Since you cannot locate the resource group, it is a good thing to review the audit logs and check if there are some records of who or what created this resource. This might lead to whether you created it, another user, or even automated processes.

Verify user permissions at the parent scope of the resource to confirm whether any unauthorized users have access to create resources in your account.

If you still cannot identify the cause of the charges, you can try making an Azure support request. This might allow you to research the matter further and possibly even request a refund if the charges are considered in error.
