Hello Satish,

To enable the disaster recovery for your azure VMs using Python SDK, you need to Recovery Services Vault created in the target region, source and target Azure regions, then

1.Install required packages.

pip install azure-mgmt-recoveryservicessiterecovery
pip install azure-identity

Authenticate and Initialize Clients.

from azure.identity import DefaultAzureCredential
from azure.mgmt.recoveryservicessiterecovery import SiteRecoveryManagementClient
import os

sub_id = os.getenv("AZURE_SUBSCRIPTION_ID")
client = SiteRecoveryManagementClient(credential=DefaultAzureCredential(), subscription_id=sub_id)

Then Define Parameters.

vault_name = 'your-vault-name'
resource_group = 'your-resource-group'
source_region = 'eastus'
target_region = 'westus'
vm_ids = ['vm_id_1', 'vm_id_2']  # Replace with actual VM resource IDs

Enable Replication for Each VM

for vm_id in vm_ids:
    site_recovery_client.replication_protected_items.begin_create(
        resource_group_name=resource_group,
        resource_name=vault_name,
        fabric_name='Azure',
        protection_container_name='your-container',
        replication_protected_item_name=f'replication-{vm_id.split("/")[-1]}',
        input={
            'properties': {
                'source': {
                    'region': source_region,
                    'resourceId': vm_id,
                },
                'target': {
                    'region': target_region,
                }
            }
        }
    )

Replace 'your-container' with the actual protection container name. You can retrieve it using the SDK or Azure CLI.

Validate Setup

Perform a test failover via the Azure portal or SDK to ensure everything works.
Monitor replication status in the Recovery Services Vault under Replicated Items.
