To remove inactive or deprecated billing accounts in the Azure portal, you need to ensure that there are no active subscriptions associated with those accounts. Once you confirm that all subscriptions have been removed, you can proceed with the following steps:
- Sign in to the Azure portal.
- Navigate to Cost Management + Billing.
- In the left menu, select Billing scopes and then choose the billing account scope.
- In the left menu, select Accounts.
- In the Accounts list, search for the account you would like to delete.
- In the account row that you want to delete, select the ellipsis (…) symbol, and then select Delete.
- On the Delete account page, select the Yes, I want to delete this account confirmation and then select Delete.
Please let me know how it goes

2025-05-23T21:00:45.1333333+00:00 Can’t delete the billing profile
This is the only billing profile in the billing account so it can’t be deleted.

2025-06-03T17:51:21.2933333+00:00 I am having the same issue. I have a unused Billing Scope and Profile I cannot delete. There are no subscriptions linked to it. When I try to delete the profile, it says "Can’t delete the billing profile. This is the only billing profile in the billing account so it can’t be deleted."
