Error when sending a Sharepoint eSignature Request to an External user: Your request couldn't be submitted Please wait a bit, and then try again..

I have enabled the Sharepoint eSignature for my Tenant. eSignature works as intended for internal users.

On Sites that do not allow Sharing, I get an error warning that I'm not allowed to add External users.

On a site that DOES allow External users, I get the Error: Your request couldn't be submitted Please wait a bit, and then try again..I have gone through the following to confirm they are configured correctly:

  • 365 Admin - Settings, Org Settings - Microsoft 365‎ Groups - The Let group owner/member add Guest and the Let Guest group member access content are checked.
  • Sharepoint Admin- Sharepoint Site Settings - External file sharing, New and Existing Guests selected.
  • Sharepoint Admin- Policies - Sharing - External Sharing = Anyone
  • get-SPOTenant - Shows that EnableAzureADB2BIntegration = $true
  • Get-SPOSite - shows that SharingCapability  = ExternalUserSharingOnly
  • Get-SPOSite - shows that SiteDefinedSharingCapability  = ExternalUserSharingOnly

Not sure where to look for any log to see what the issue was. Not sure where to start looking next.

Any Comments or suggestions would be welcome!

    Hi @Scott Townsend ,
I struggled with this for a while. The solution for me was to add all users with permissions on the SharePoint eSignature enterprise application Service principal which gets provisioned in Azure.

It's not listed under the Enterprise Applications, so search for it. Then add all users under the "Users and groups" section.Screenshot 2026-01-24 at 15.50.08

    Hi @Scott Townsend

Thank you for reaching out to the Microsoft Q&A Forum.

Honestly, I don't have the environment or the necessary tools and resources to conduct a real test and directly compare it with your issue. However, based on my research, there are a few additional areas worth checking that might be causing the problem.

    1.Conditional Access Policies

If external signers are blocked by Conditional Access policies, such as MFA requirements, the eSignature request may fail silently or return a vague error message. Set up SharePoint eSignature - Microsoft Syntex | Microsoft Learn

Ensure that the SharePoint eSignature service is listed as an approved app in your CA policies.

For more details you can refer to https://github.com/MicrosoftDocs/microsoft-365-docs/blob/public/microsoft-365/syntex/esignature-troubleshoot.md#unable-to-send-a-request-to-an-external-recipient

    2.Microsoft Entra B2B Integration

You’ve confirmed that EnableAzureADB2BIntegration = $true, which is good. However, also verify that:

-The Microsoft Entra B2B Integration is fully enabled for both SharePoint and OneDrive Microsoft Entra B2B integration for SharePoint & OneDrive - SharePoint in Microsoft 365 | Microsoft Learn
-The external user has been properly invited and accepted the invitation.

-The user appears in Azure AD as a guest and is not blocked or pending.
