Hello Team, Greetings!

Based on today's email communitcation regarding AV36 3-Year Reserved Instances End of Sale on 30 June 2025!

Q) So I assume we cannot do 3 year reservation renewal for existing reservation or buy new one with 3 year reservation after 30 June 2025 correct?

Q) What would be the migration approach for customers who are using AV36 nodes in AVS cluster to new SKU like AV36P?

Like on-premise VMware infrastructure, can we create a new cluster with AV36P nodes within the same private cloud / vcenter instance and then do migration of VMs?

A) You need to create a new private cloud then migrate your workload from current private cloud to the new one.

Hello @Silvia Wibowo - Thank you so much for your quick response.

New Q) My customer have two reservation created for AVS nodes in same cluster in same private cloud:

3 x AV36 node valid until 13th Dec 2026 (3 years reservation created back in 2023)

1 x AV36 node valid until 11th-Dec-2025 (1 year reservation created back in 2024)

I can still renew these existing reservation to date before 25 June 2028?

Just to follow up on below:

Follow up Q) If we have to create a new private cloud to migrate workloads from current private cloud to new one, then we need to provide new CIDR for new private cloud and the workloads running in NSX segments should also be re-ip'd?

Hi @Ravi Kumar Shanker ,

Reservation Renewal: Yes, you can renew existing reservations for AVS nodes before June 25, 2028. Since your customer has two reservations for AV36 nodes, they can renew both reservations as long as they do so before the specified date.

Creating a New Private Cloud: When creating a new private cloud to migrate workloads, you will indeed need to provide a new CIDR block for the new private cloud. Additionally, the workloads running in NSX segments will need to be re-IP'd to align with the new CIDR configuration. This is necessary to ensure that the network configurations are consistent and that there are no IP conflicts.

Migration Approach from AV36 to AV36P: The migration approach for customers using AV36 nodes in an AVS cluster to a new SKU like AV36P involves creating a new private cloud. After the new private cloud is set up, you will need to migrate the workloads from the current private cloud to the new one. This process may involve reconfiguring network settings, storage, and any other dependencies that the workloads may have.

Hello @Silvia Wibowo @Anusree Nashetty , I would like to further discuss this with you guys and seek expert advise. Based on recent announcement from Microsoft on Broadcom VMware Licensing Changes (https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/azuremigrationblog/broadcom-vmware-licensing-changes-what-azure-vmware-solution-customers-need-to-k/4448784) -

Q. This customer has two reservations:

a. AV36 - 3 nodes for 3 Years Reservation & it will expire on 13th Dec 2026.

b. AV36 - 1 node for 1 year Reservation & it will expire on 12th of Nov 2025.

Since customers cannot do 3 years Reservation of AV36 post 30 June 2025 & now because of this licensing changes, which must be actioned before 15thOct 2025. We can only do 1 year reservation exchange of AV36 - for the existing reservation which will be expiring on 12th Nov 2025, correct?

Q. For the reservation which is going to expire on 13th Dec 2026, we cannot do anything about it?

Q. By any chance can Microsoft team help in creating a reservation at the backend for this customer for more longer validity.

For example: Create one Reservation with includes 4 x AV36 nodes, instead of 1 year say 2 years and we can ask this customer to exchange the existing 2 x reservations with the new one?

Another question:
Q. What will happen if the existing 1 node reservation (expiring in Nov 2025) is left as is - Will it be converted to PAYG or will the node stop working due to licensing?
