Fan not working in power saving mode

I was wonderening why the fan won't spin up in power saving mode. I have set the cooling the active in the power profile but it does not start spinning until it is changed to balanced mode.

Is this intended or am I missing something. It becomes quit hot while playing some regular store games like Catan.

    Hi Expecho,

The reason it sounds like the fans remain silent is because everything is running at a reduced capacity and producing less heat on Power Saving mode, the fans don't have to work as hard as, say, when the device is on High Performance mode.

Are you experiencing any heat issues? Does the device indicate that it's overheating when it's set to Power Saving mode?

... also note that if the CPU fan was not working - or if the CPU read "0" rpms from the fan, the tablet will not power on.  That is a safety feature with all computers.

I would recommend that you play high end games with the A/C adapter and set your power plan so that when on A/C, all power saving features to be "OFF".  When it gets hot like that, you are taxing the battery packs pretty heavily.

    Hi Expecho,

Thank you for contacting the Surface Community with your question regarding the fan, I appreciate it.

Although it does sound like the fan is not spinning when the device is set to power saving mode, rest assured, it is working and keeping your device cool.

It might be that since it's in power saving mode, it's not spinning as fast as other modes, but if the fan wasn't working at all, your device would be completely overheated. It is expected that your device gets hot when you're on processor heavy apps (especially games), but if you are concerned about the device overheating, I'd suggest you try Balanced or even High performance setting to compare how differently the fan works.

    Hope it answered your question!
