Cursor jumps around when charger is connected - Surface Pro 3

Hello all,

I recently purchased a Surface Pro 3 and am running into this issue which is starting to frustrate me quite a bit. My cursor will periodically jump around the screen, usually to the top left corner. However, it only does this when the charger is connected.

This problem occurs whether or not the type cover is attached, with both the touch pad on the type cover, as well as a USB mouse I am using. The only thing that makes a difference is unplugging the charger, which is not really an acceptable solution for me.

I am running windows 10, and I have installed all the latest updates.

I did a system reset moments before writing this post, and haven't installed a single program since, so it isn't anything like that.

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is starting to get quite annoying.

Also: I did a bit of research and found people that had similar problems. Nothing posted in the below links has helped me.

    Hello Joel,

I had a similar problem with my Surface Pro 3. When the charger was connected and I used the touchpad, I could barely control the cursor, it mostly jumped all over the place. If I disconnected the charger I had no problem. This had been happening a little this week, but today it became unusable.

The problem was under my desk, the charging unit was next to another charger. I moved the Surface 3 charger about a meter away and now I can use the  touchpad while charging.

The other charger that was causing the problem, is a replacement charger for an MS Surface Pro 1.  This charger  causes the erratic cursor on that Surface Pro 1, it is not a Microsoft product.

I had this problem when my charger was plugged in at a client's premises.

Changed to a different power point and problem disappeared.

    Weird :-)

Had this happen, after updating to the latest firmware it went away..

    What revision are you running?

    WindowsKey + R

    Type in WinVer press OK..

The version should be displayed.. (build Number)

What version and build is it?

    Hello JoelHufford

You say this is happening when Surface is connected to power.  Does this experience vary based on the outlet or location Surface is plugged in?  Do you have the same results in different buildings, locations?

    Best regards
