How to Get Service/Replacement for Surface Pen

Hello! I hope you are well.

I am reaching out to find out any good replacement Surface Pen for my Microsoft Surface Pro 7. The top of the pen (the cone) has entirely broken off the pen, so I only have Bluetooth function with it now, making it useless for drawing.

I tried to see if I could get a service for it, but my device is out of warranty, and when I try the Surface repair service anyway, there is no service options for the Surface pen. I also saw a replacement form on the main website, but I don't have the purchase information anymore.

So, can anyone help find a way to get my Surface Pen repaired? If not, does anyone have any recommendations for a new stylus for Surface Pro 7? I would buy another Surface Pen or a Pen Slim, but both are far too expense. So, any suggestions?

    Hi Linda,

Thanks for the pictures, and I'm sorry I misunderstood your description of the Surface Pen tip. Because you cannot get service through the self-service repair process, you need to contact Microsoft Technical Support for more personalized assistance.

As for Surface Pen alternatives, we always recommend using the Surface Pen with your Surface device. If you're interested in third-party styluses, I'll also keep this thread open for other volunteers and users in the community to provide any ideas and suggestions.

    Your Sincerely

    Hi Linda,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the issues with your Surface Pen! Here are some options for addressing your situation:

If you have a Surface Pen with no clip, you can replace the tips. Purchase a set of three tips from the Microsoft Store: Surface Pen Tips | Microsoft Surface Pro Pen Replacement Tips - Microsoft Store

If these steps didn't resolve the problem, you can request a replacement Surface Pen. Go to Device service and repair, sign in with your Microsoft account, and select a Surface or register a new device.

After you select a registered device, you'll see replacement offers based on your warranty status and eligibility for exchange.

    Your Sincerely

    Thank you for your response.

However, as specified in my original post, it's not the tip that broke off, it's the entire pen top. See the picture below.

I already have tip replacements, but they won't help with this.

Also, as I stated above, I tried the Device service and repair. No options for service or replacement pen were available when I used it.

I also can't use the replacement/exchange form because I no longer have the purchase information.

That's why I came here. Is there another way to request service? Or do you have any suggestions for alternative replacement pens as I can't afford $99 right now?

Edit: Side question, but would a Surface Pro 3 pen work with a Surface Pro 7?

    Hello, Linda Boadi.

    Thank you for the pictures.

It looks like the head of your pen is completely disconnected.

To get hardware support service, I will go ahead and share with you the following steps to create a service order:

Open the Surface App (usually built into your Surface device, or you can download it from the Microsoft Store if you don't have one) and follow the procedure below:

    1. Click "Help and Support" and then click "Get Help".
    2. Briefly describe your problem in the text box, such as "Replace the Surface Pen", and then press Enter.
    3. Click "Contact Support" at the bottom.
    4. Select "Technical Support" and click "Confirm".
    5. You will see "Chat support" and "phone support" options, please contact them during working hours, you will get one-to-one support services.

I will continue to share the following support links with you regarding the compatibility of the Surface Pen with Surface devices:

Identify your Surface Pen and features - Microsoft Support

You may want to use a pen that you were once able to use on the Surface Pro 3 as an alternative. While you sift through the list, it's easy to see that only the two Surface Pen models labeled below are supported on the Surface Pro 3. However, scrolling down the list we were able to learn that none of them are supported for use with the Surface Pro 7.

Therefore, we hope that you will be able to get more effective help by talking to the Surface technical support team.

These are some of the current information I can share with you.

Thank you for your understanding and support of the Microsoft community and Surface products.

    Best Regards.

    Thank you for your reply!

I will try to reach out to support through the surface app.

Why technical support instead of hardware?

Also, any suggestions for good alternates to the surface pen?

    Edit:

I reached out to Support, and it looks like the pens are out of warranty. So, basically, I just have to buy a new pen. They are still working with me though!
