Surface Pro 4 Type Cover keeps disconnecting

Hi,

My Surface pro 4 type covers keeps on disconnecting if I stop using the tablet for a few minutes. The backlight is still on, but I cannot use the trackpad or the keys. The tablet still registers that it's connected as the onscreen keyboard icon does not appear. I have to disconnect and reconnect the keyboard physically for it to work again.

I have already reset the tablet and the issue still occurs. Does anyone know any solution or have any idea what is happening? I am not sure if this is a software problem or a hardware problem. I am not sure if I should bring it to a third party repair centre to try to fix this, or if this is fixable at all.

Thanks

    Hi Felixkli,

Keyboard connectivity can be influenced by many factors including dirty connectors, up through software or firmware issues. You can clean the magnetic connections by applying a small amount of isopropyl alcohol (also called rubbing alcohol) to a soft, lint-free cloth. If the issue still occurs, run the Surface Diagnostic tool to diagnose and fix the issue. You can check more about the toolkit here.

If the Type cover still not working, then we suggest that you perform Two-button shutdown process. Here’s how:

    1. Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds. 3. After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds. 4. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

Let us know how it turns out.

I have find the 2 button shut down and the issue is still happening.

More detail is that if I set the tablet to sleep and turn back on, it works again. Also it works again when i restart the tablet. Of course a few minutes after, the issue would turn up again.

We'd like to follow up to see if your issue got resolved. Are you still having difficulty using your Surface Pro 4 Type Cover? Can you tell us the result coming from the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit?

Should you need additional troubleshooting steps, we recommend that you uninstall then reinstall the keyboard driver. To do this, please follow the steps below:

    1. On the Search bar/Cortana, type 'device manager', and select Device Manager in the results.
    2. In the Device Manager, double-click/tap the Keyboards to expand.
    3. Right-click Surface Type Cover Filter Device.
    4. Select Uninstall > then click OK.

*Restart your Surface. It'll automatically download and install the Surface Cover driver the next time you connect to the Internet.

Keep us updated on the outcome.

I have the same problem, but "surface type cover filter device" isn't in the device manager to delete. It keeps popping up with USB device not recognised though. And there is a USB input device under HID with the little yellow ! on it.

    Hello,

I have the same problem, it started a few weeks ago and it's starting to be annoying. Also my Microsoft Mouse keeps disconnecting along with the keyboard.

Has anyone came up with a solution to this issue?
