Beeping noise

I have the same problem. The beeping seems truly random and without cause. It sounds like a single short Morse-code beep or like pressing a single number on a phone keypad.

Some details:

  • Surface Pro 4
  • happens when charging or on battery
  • no new programs installed
  • happens when I have programs running or with nothing running (I typically only use Internet browsers and Office products like Word/PowerPoint, nothing heavy)
  • restarting doesn't fix -- has been happening for a couple weeks now and I have restarted / turned off completely multiple times trying to fix it
  • beeps between 1-4 times in succession with no discernible pattern
  • no consistent interval between beeps, shortest has been a few hours, longest a couple days
  • Sometimes happens even when screen is locked, sometimes when I'm working, sometimes when screen is on but I'm not touching it.
  • there are no extra lights on the device or alerts on the screen when this happens
  • does not seem to be affecting the Surface's performance at all but it is decently loud and disruptive if working in a quiet place around others
  • happens even when device is on mute and is always at the same loud volume

I have not had the beeps happen while headphones are plugged in, but that seems to be a coincidence since I have no way to predict/induce the behavior and I don't always have headphones in.

    Is there anything in Event Viewer when it beeps?

    Today at 17:22 there were three consecutive beeps while on battery power (battery was low at the time but this has happened before at full power and while charging). Here are the events in Event Viewer at that time.

    Nothing there provides a clue. Try the consumer version of the Surface

    which can often fix most software and driver issues (to rule out software).

    This is not an issue we've seen more than a few reports on. If you are in the

    US, you should go to the closest physical retail Microsoft Store
