Precision Mouse suddenly stops functioning other than can move cursor

I just purchased a Surface Precision Mouse and connected it to my Surface pro laptop.   After a short while of working properly, the mouse no longer functions to operate (although there still is a cursor and the mouse moves it).

Does anyone have advice how I fix this.  Thank you.

    Hi SteveSpector,

We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

I'd like you to check and perform the applicable troubleshooting steps available in this link>>https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4034571/accessories-troubleshoot-problems-microsoft-mouse-or-keyboard and please let us know if this helps. If you have performed all the steps already and it didn't make any difference, you may need to use another mouse so we can determine whether or not the issue lies within the mouse itself or it's within the Surface device.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest

I went thru the tips but none solved the issue.  Can I use the Surface laptop trackpad as the "other" mouse to take next steps?  Thanks.

Thank you.  Were there next steps you were going to suggest.  Is there any steps i can now take to see if the microsoft precision wireless mouse problem can be solved.  Should i return the $99 brand new mouse?  It shoukdnt be that it just stops working intermittently? Any suggestions on how i might proceed woukd be appreciated.  Thank you again .

    HIi SteveSpector,

    Thank you for your response.

Since you have tried all the applicable troubleshooting steps from this link>>https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4034571/accessories-troubleshoot-problems-microsoft-mouse-or-keyboard and it didn't fix the issue, what I can recommend is to send the wireless mouse for a refund or replacement. You can go back to the point of sale to get further assistance. If you purchased it from our Microsoft Store online, please contact our Microsoft Store and Sales Support to get this taken cared of.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest
