Considering the device was just taken outside the box, there may be updates needed to be installed for it to run smoothly. Kindly make sure first that all updates available are installed including Optional updates in Windows Settings > Windows Updates. Check also the Surface drivers' health through the Surface app then run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit on the device.
