Surface Pro 9 5G Screen Flicker

Hi,

I've received my new Surface Pro 9 5G today.

Mostly, it's great however, there's a clear issue with screen flicker. It's way more noticeable in dark mode over light mode, but is very clearly visible.

I've tried "uninstalling" the Display Adapter, which in my case is the Qualcomm Adreno 8cx Gen 3, and this resolves the issue, but then introduces extremely poor performance, and the driver is then reinstalled on reboot, reintroducing the screen flicker.

Any ideas? This doesn't appear to be a hardware issue, hence the above, but it's extremely annoying for a device of this cost.

Thanks

    Hi Boffting,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community and apologies for the inconvenience this has caused you. I understand that the device is new and you should not be experiencing this kind of issue.

Considering the device was just taken outside the box, there may be updates needed to be installed for it to run smoothly. Kindly make sure first that all updates available are installed including Optional updates in Windows Settings > Windows Updates. Check also the Surface drivers' health through the Surface app then run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit on the device. See this page for reference: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support. After running those steps, check if still issue persists.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Marrion

    Hi,

I’ve tried all the above - issue still present.

Also tried a full reset/reinstall of Windows 11.

    Hi Boffting,

Thank you for the response and sorry to hear that still the issue persists even after reinstalling Windows on the device. To proceed, please see this page and follow the steps provided under Refresh the screen with keyboard shortcuts, Check your power settings, Force a restart, and Test the screen in the UEFI of your Surface sections: What to try if your Surface screen is distorted, is flickering, or has lines running through it - Microsoft Support

If still the issue persists after those steps and especially if the issue also occurs on the UEFI screen, I recommend having the device replaced through our Microsoft Store Online support. See this page for reference in contacting our live Microsoft Store support: Contact Microsoft Store Support - Microsoft Support

    Kind regards,
    Marrion

I've arranged an exchange with the retailer. Replacement device should be with me tomorrow.

Fingers crossed this one is fine :)
