    Hello,

Sorry to hear that you are having trouble with your camera option.

This could be due to a driver issue or a hardware problem. Please try the following steps to troubleshoot:

    • Check if your camera is enabled in the privacy settings. Go to Start > Settings > Privacy > Camera and make sure the toggle is on for "Allow apps to access your camera".
    • Update your camera driver. Go to Start > Device Manager > Cameras and right-click on your camera device. Select "Update driver" and follow the instructions.
    • If the above steps do not work, you may need to reset your camera app. Go to Start > Settings > Apps > Apps & features and find the Camera app. Click on it and select "Advanced options". Then click on "Reset" and confirm.
    • If none of these solutions work, you may have a hardware issue with your camera. Please contact our support team for further assistance.

If you have more questions, feel free to ask.

Sorry for the late response to this query!

A while back I had purchased another computer not realizing it was only a gaming computer and was not supplied with the camera feature so I returned the computer.

my camera option is not showing up in device manager. It's not even there when I select "Show hidden devices". I have an integrated HP camera. I also have an external Logitech Brio 100 camera.

    Hi ozzy lopez,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the description you posted, it seems that you have an issue with Surface laptop 5 wherein the camera driver is missing in the device manager. This may be caused by driver software is corrupted or the camera itself.

Let’s work together in finding the best solution to this issue.

    1. Allow your device to access your camera: Press the Windows logo key and type “camera privacy settings”. Select “Camera privacy settings”. Make sure the option “Camera access” is turned on. If it’s off, click the “Change” button to turn it on.
    2. We will be going to download and install the driver pack on your Surface laptop 5. this will help us update the hardware on the device.
    3. After the installation is complete, please restart the computer to apply changes.
    4. Then, update your Surface Laptop's drivers. Go to Device Manager, locate the camera driver, right-click on it, and select "Update driver.
    5. If still persists, we will go to UEFI screen and we will check if all camera is on.
    6. Boot to UEFI Go to Windows>Power>Shutdown.
    7. Once the device is shutdown, **press and hold the volume up button,**and single press the power button.
    8. The device will boot to the Surface logo, and you should see spinning dots. After the Surface logo, the device should boot to UEFI.
    9. Under USFI screen click on device and check if All camera is on or enable. If on, try to turn it off for a minute. Then swipe too on again. Then click exit and restart.
    10. Once you back on the desktop screen try to open camera app again.

If the above steps do not work, try resetting your Surface Laptop 5 to its default settings. Go to Settings > system > Recovery > Reset this PC.

Please let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Christopher
