My Surface Pro 7 appears to have developed a recurring problem.

When boot up the computer, rather than load up the desktop I have the windows icon on a black screen which seems to flicker or scroll dowards repetitively.

When I hold down the on button to rest all works fine. It seems that i now have to do this every time i need to power up the Surafce Pro

Thanks in advance

    Hi, JRodME!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concern. We are sorry to learn you have issues with your Surface Pro 7. Thanks for taking the time to let us know about this and allowing us to help you out. Just to confirm, your screen flickers on and off while loading the Windows logo upon startup. Is that the one you're experiencing? If not, can you elaborate further?

In the meantime, kindly do the following steps in the same exact order:

    • Check for Windows Update:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

    1. Press and hold the power button until the screen turns off (about 10 seconds), then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Microsoft logo.

If that doesn't work, here's how to make sure your Surface turns off completely:

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface restarts and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

We hope this helps you out. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z

I have exactly the same problem. In order to boot the surface I have to force the shut down and usually after this it works and the surface boots normally. Any fixes?

Tried running the Surface Pro toolkit which seems to have done the trick so far but it happens every so often. Hopefully no further issues. Tge first part of the seemed to have picked up an issue and it reinstalled a few programs.

Let me know how you get on
