Surface Book WIFI problem again

No 5 GHz networks can be detected, although they are there (checked with two mobile phones).

We have a Surface Book (1) with the following driver: Marvell Semiconductors, Inc., 21/01/2020, 15.68.17018.116.

The system says that the best driver is already installed.

Rolling back to older drivers is enabled, but the previous driver did not work either: Because 'Roll Back Driver' had been disabled before, I had deinstalled the device and restarted the system. The first driver to be used after the redetection was from 2016 and no 5 GHz network was shown.

There was an issue with this about a year ago. Shouldn't this have been fixed?

    Hi, hpetschko!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns regarding your Wi-Fi issue on your Surface Book.

There was an issue last year with the 15.68.17013.110. version of the Marvell AVASTAR driver. As per https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023488/surface-surface-book-update-history, the November 2019 update addressed the Wi-Fi connectivity issue.

May we know when you've installed the 15.68.17018.116 network driver? Please check your Windows Update history for the information. In the meantime, kindly do these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

    • Go to Device Manager and open the network adapter's properties.

Click on the Advanced tab, then choose Bandunder Property.

To its right, select Auto or 5 GHz Only

    Click OK, then restart.

Try to connect to Wi-Fi and see if your 5 GHz network can be seen.

    • Run the Network troubleshooter.

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot > look for Internet Connections and Network Adapter.

    Run each of their troubleshooters.

Let us know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z

    Hi Janette_Z,

Sorry for not having come back earlier. I am pretty sure I enabled the notification setting, but did not receive any message, so I thought there was no answer.

I tried both of your points, and in the end it worked, though I do not know how and why.

After having set the Band to 5 GHz, restarting and running the trouble-shooter, the computer still did not see the 5 GHz net.

Then I set the Band back to Auto, having accepted the fact that I would have to reconfigure the router to 2.4 GHz.

But suddenly, after a new restart, the 5 GHz net was there...

Very strange, this thing called software.

Anyhow, many thanks for your help!

    Hj
