surface pro 3 - Erratic Mouse, touch screen sometimes not responding, plus other strange issues

Hi - I keep my surface pro 3 updated (with type cover attached) and security scan daily.  Lately, I notice that intermittently the cursor has a "mind of it's own" and erratically moves about the screen (not just to right or left corner as I've read in some other posts.)

If I can get the cursor to click on a tab (or whatever) it sometimes works - sometimes doesn't.  I have NO control for the period of time it's doing this.  I've tried taking the cover off, then on again, using touch screen only (which may or may not respond), going back and forth between using the typecover and touch screen - (sometimes I could get one or the other to work for one or two clicks),  rebooting, trying different environments (home vs office), connected to battery and NOT connected...I lost my pen, so don't know if that's affected as well. None of those things made any difference as far as I can tell.  At the moment, it's working perfectly!

Another oddity was that if I had multiple tabs open (different apps and web pages) and I tried to click on a different tab to switch to a different page - it CLOSED the tab instead of opening it.  Also, when I tried to click on X (upper R corner of window), it wouldn't work at all - sometimes grayed out - sometimes not.  Had to go to task manager to close programs.  Any ideas?  I'm desperate to fix this - I can't run my business with this issue!

FYI: Yesterday, for instance, I had adobe reader, chrome browser opened to a company website, and edge window open to Microsoft support while these issues were happening.

Thanks for any help you can provide!

    Hello Sue557,

Thank you for reaching out to the Surface community. I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your mouse and touch screen. Because both your cursor and touchscreen seem to be experiencing intermittent problems, I suggest you follow the steps found on the Surface support page here, which will troubleshoot your touchscreen and may also fix the cursor issue. After you have tried those steps, please let us know the result.

    Thank You,

I am having this problem as well.  The machine is unusable. (Surface pro3)  Everything was fine (relatively) until about 2 months ago when I allowed it to take all the updates including firmware.  Now the fan runs all the time, it is slow, and gets super hot.  Once it is hot, the mouse/curser starts jumping around.  Worse than just jumping around is that it randomly clicks as well.  Happens no matter what program is open.  This is very dangerous as it can move stuff around or if you are on amazon, you never know what it just ordered for you with "One Click".  Seems as if I use task manager to shut down some Host configuration process it helps, but then that restarts itself and the problem comes back.  MS, please fix this machine.  Tons of people having these problems. I took all the updates today and it did not help at all.

Strangely enough, I haven't had this issue repeat itself since my post..thankfully. so I can't comment on what, if any suggestions might have helped. I wondered if it would happen again when I went to my office (where it was really bad) but it didn't. Like I mentioned in my post, I keep things updated, so maybe it was just a fix in following update? Will be sure to post again if I have further issues like this. Thanks for the help.
