Mouse & Keyboard Center: No Supported Device Detected

When I try to open "The Mouse & Keyboard Center" from the Windows Settings screen or Start Menu I get "No Supported Device Detected", and “Microsoft Mouse and Keyboard Center cannot detect a Microsoft device connected to your computer” messages.

I’m using a Surface Pro 5 computer with the current updated Windows 10 Pro OS , and as far as I can tell the current mouse driver (I attempted to update it and received a message that indicated that I had the current version), and Mouse & Keyboard Center (again, I attempted to update it and was told that I had the current version). The mouse is a Microsoft Surface Mouse (Bluetooth).

Other than this issue, the pen, mouse and keyboard work perfectly and I am using no other Bluetooth devices.

Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks,

Jack

    Microsoft Surface Mouse (Bluetooth).

    https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/support/troubleshooting/mouse/supported-devices

    Not listed.

See if you can find your "Surface Mouse" here (e.g. by checking Bluetooth under Features)

    https://www.microsoft.com/accessories/en-us/mice

Notice that if it was a Bluetooth Mobile Mouse 3600 you would have MMKC support

but if you had a Bluetooth Designer Mouse you wouldn't (i.e. Downloads indicates MMKC is available in the first case but not the second.)

    Oh.  This one?

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d/surface-mouse/8qbtdr3q4rpw?activetab=pivot:techspecstab

No extra buttons, so no need for MMKC?

That's not it either.  They both have a "wheel button" and otherwise equivalent functionality.  What's the difference?

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/d/surface-mouse/8qbtdr3q4rpw?activetab=pivot:techspecstab

Here the (seemingly arbitrary) distinction is that one has "Customizable features available for Windows", the other doesn't.

Thank you Robert. My mouse is a Microsoft Surface mouse, model number WS3-00001, which I cannot find on the list of supported devices.

Seems odd to me that a currently available mouse for a currently available computer would not support currently available software (which was pre-loaded on my Surface computer), but then again... What do I know?

Again, thank you for your reply.
