I suspect you're seeing a false battery status and resulting shutdown. When this happened early on with my Surface Duo 1 (which I traded in for a Duo 2) I did a hard reset (holding the power button in until the unit shutdown and restarted) and I never saw it again. I've never seen it on my Duo 2.
Surface Duo V1 Battery Issue
This issue has happened before months ago and resolved itself. It has resurfaced and I would like some insight or educated guesses. My phone had over 90% battery when it shut down on it's own. I tried turning back on but got the low/dead battery icon. After charging for about 10 min, I was able to turn it back on and the settings showed battery was at 93%.
Luckily, I was able to record all of it with my secondary phone. I have full video evidence (12 min long) demonstrating this problem. Unfortunately, I didnt record the part when it "died" again a minute after the recording ended. I have yet to try reviving it as I type this.
Who else has encountered this? Is there a fix? This device doesnt see heavy usage or harsh environments. The phone is less than a year old. I received this direct from Microsoft March of 2021. Does the battery/hardware really fail in less than a year?

2022-02-11T17:33:21+00:00 Thanks for the input. I tried the hard reset the last time this occurred with no success. Luckily, the issue resolved itself after about an hour of repeated fails. I agree, it may relate to displaying an incorrect battery capacity. I bought V2 but found that the fingerprints annoyed me on the Black. I thought Microsoft was going to swap me for a white one but they refunded me instead and I never got a V2 : (
