Hi Jacqueline101101,
Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.
First of all, we need to make sure which Surface Pro do you have. Surface Pro X use the Microsoft SQ1 processor, not the core M. Can you please open the Surface app on the device (install from the Microsoft Store app if not yet installed) then select the Laptop icon next to the Pen icon on the left side. It will show you the model of your Surface in SKU.
Regarding with your concern on how to unlock the Surface:
When you first turn on the device, were you able to set it up? Did you set it up with your Microsoft Account or with just a local account?
In setting up, were you ask to create a password or PIN?
Once you got that screen again, try pressing the Enter key on the keyboard or swiping the screen up and see if you will get the prompt to enter your password or PIN. Enter the password you created or PIN. If you are still having difficulties in unlocking your Surface, please provide us here with a picture of the screen you are getting from the Surface.
I included here some links that might be useful in setting up your Surface:
Set up your device with Windows 10 Out of Box Experience
Sign in to and out of your Surface
