I bought a MS Surface Dock 2 along with 2 Samsung monitors (U28R55) to connect my laptop... the Monitors have a (1) USB Service Port & 2 HDMI ports and the MS Dock 2 USB & 4 USBc ports - I don't seem to be able to connect with USB/USBc chord which Surface is not recognizing - option here?

    Hi Sherm,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

Based on the description you posted, you have an issue with Surface laptop 4 wherein the device will not recognize the dock in the USB-C to connect to the second screen. This may be caused by the dock 2 not being connected properly or needing to update the driver of the Surface dock 2.

Let’s work together in finding the best solution to this issue. To get started I will ask a few questions to further isolate the issue.

    • When you try to connect the monitor to the dock 2 did you find any error message display on the Surface or just black screen.
    • When you connect the USB-C to HDMI cable to the Surface dock 2 did you connect at the back of the dock?

The two USB-C port in front of the Surface dock 2 is only use for data transfer.

We will take some basic troubleshooting steps to further fix the issue.

    1. Please connect the Surface dock 2 to the Surface using the Surface connect port.
    2. Next, please connect the USB-C to HDMI cable at the back of your Surface dock going to the HDMI port of the monitor.
    3. After you connect the 2 USB-C to HDMI at the back of the monitor.
    4. Please turn on both monitor
    5. Next, Press the Windows logo key + P on your keyboard to open Project. Then, select “Extend” to extend your display to the Samsung monitors.

If the above steps don’t work, you can try resetting your MS Surface Dock 2 by following these steps:

    1. Disconnect all cables from your MS Surface Dock 2.
    2. Unplug the power cord from your MS Surface Dock 2.
    3. Wait for 10 seconds.
    4. Plug the power cord back into your MS Surface Dock 2.

If still not working, please also install the driver pack on the Surface dock. Download Surface Dock 2 Firmware and Drivers. from Official Microsoft Download Center

Please tell me how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Hello Christopher

Thank you for the response... I was able to connect the two monitors to the Surface Dock 2... however, one is full screen and one is not full screen and I am having trouble getting it to be full screen... I have two Samsung monitors... I have tried virtually everything in settings... any thoughts?
