We have a Surface Pro 9 that is using a surface Dock 2 to connect Dual Dell monitors. However, when the monitors are plugged in, it is having power issues. It is asking to remove the monitors and restart. We are trying to connect, Dell S2425HS monitor. Is it the monitor or the docking station we need to replace?

    Hi Kriti,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

It sounds like you're experiencing power-related issues when using the Surface Pro 9 with the Surface Dock 2 and connecting the Dell S2425HS monitors. The issue could stem from either the docking station or the monitor setup. To help pinpoint the root cause, try the following troubleshooting steps:

    • Test the Dell S2425HS monitors individually by connecting them directly to your Surface Pro 9 (without using the Dock) to ensure the monitors themselves are not causing the issue.
    • Check the video cables: Using high quality cables is an essential part of having a working connection to your external display. We recommend using Designed for Surface Accessories.
    • Clear your display cache:
    1. Undock your Surface from the Surface Dock or disconnect the monitor from your Surface.
    2. Download the Surface Dock registry file. Choose to Open the file. This file will clear your cache, whether you have a dock or not.
    3. Select and run surface dock registry.reg.
    4. Select Yes to allow changes to your Surface, select Yes to confirm, and then select OK to close.
    5. Restart your Surface, reconnect the Dock and/or monitors, and try your external display again.

If you find that the issue persists even with different cables, configurations, and another monitor, then it could point to a problem with the Surface Dock 2. However, if the monitors work fine independently and only cause problems when connected via the Dock, then it might be a compatibility issue between the Dock and the monitors.
