Jumping cursor

I’m having an issue with my SB2. Postponing the updates saved me for a long time but unfortunately it’s back again. The cursor jumps about 10 times a minute to the right corner of the monitor which I’m working on. There are a few conditions I’d like to share with you as well as a couple of potential solutions (which didn’t work).

Conditions.

  • Only appears when connected to a dock.
  • I’m using the Microsoft dock but another brand (by USB 3.0) is no different.
  • Wasn’t there with the 18xx version of Windows 10 Pro.
  • Problem appears first when updated to 1903 (a few months ago).
  • After spending days Googling to a solutions a roll back to 18xx seem to be the solution (temporarily).

But when I was facing a few small problems with installing apps from the store an update to 1909 was unavoidable. But unfortunately after a long install time the very first problem is back again.

Potential solutions (with no result).

  • Disable touchpad.
  • Disable touchscreen.
  • Removing USB devices an re-added.
  • Latest upgrade
  • Moreover it’s strange that my build version isn’t available on de support page.
  • Tried 3 different mouses (wired, wireless with receiver and USB cabled).
  • Manually installed graphical drivers.
  • Another Microsoft dock.
  • Dock updater.
  • Surface diagnostics.

Workaround at the moment.

  • When select ‘only show second screen (and 3rd)’ the problem seems to be gone. When switching back to ‘Expanding modus’, so I can use 3 screens, the problem is there again.

Unfortunately me and my SB2 are not a happy marriage and having a history of many problems. One of them is performance. With the specs (and the price) of the laptop you may assume that designer programs (and simple games) must be a peace of cake for the laptop. But I keep facing performance problems and it’s driving me crazy. I even have to send it back because the screen has small temporarily burn-in-spots. Anyway, I stray. Maybe this is content for another topic.

I hope you can help me out with the cursor problem guys.

    Hi Andries van der Gugten,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community. We are sorry to hear about the issue you were having on your Surface Book. We also appreciate the time and effort you spent in trying to troubleshoot the issue.

We would like to ask for few more details to further isolate the issue:

Does the mouse pointer moves to the right corner while you are using it or it only moved when it is idled?

How about if you use Extend display but set 1 of the external monitor as the main display, does the issue occurs also? on the Surface screen?

May we ask if you were able to try using another Surface on this set up? Does the issue still happened?

For now, please try to clear the display cache of the device: Refer to this page on how to Clear your display cache (Solution 5).

If this answer your question, we highly encourage you to inform our Community by clicking on Yes or marking my post as an answer. This will help other members who may have the same issue as you. Otherwise, don't hesitate to update us so we can further assist you.

    Kind Regards,

    Marrion Y.
