    Hi Matt,

This is quite odd.  Let's sort this out.  When did this particular issue begin?  Normally, if your Windows Device Manager screen is not recognizing the type cover as it should, this maybe due to a driver issue.

To be able to ensure that the drivers you have are correct for the type cover, let's run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (SDT).  For more information how to run this, please click on this link.

I am faced with similar issue. System is not able to detect the type cover and listed as "Unknown USB Device (Set Address Failed) Driver error)"

Already went through the whole suite of troubleshooting methods (listed on Microsoft Support Site together with Online Chat support) but still not able to solve the problem.

Are there any known hardware issues or patch errors?

    Hi T W Heng,

Have you already ran SDT on your Surface device?  May we know what is the latest build of Windows that is installed on your device?

    Hi JohnP Lee,

Yes, I have ran the SDT, did manual update of drivers and even did a full reset of my surface pro 4.  The type cover still didn't work.

    Edition: Win 10 Pro

    Windows build: 16299.371

    Version: 1709

Similar situation happened before earlier this year and was solved after the Community found the solution by uninstalling update KB4074588.

Is there something similar that can be done to get the type cover working again?

    Thank you.

Yep have ran everything and am always up to date. Seems to be getting in conflict with HID keyboards i plug into from time to time.

Losing efficiency as the tablet form of the surface is not that great.
