I have the Microsoft Dock and my screen is connected via the official microsoft something to HDMI adapter with a decent adapter, and when I run certain things or just google chrome (youtube) both screens go black and one fails... or both fail and both go black or one does... and its just getting a bit annoying cause when I try to play games and have youtube or music on my extra screen going it just glitches everything.

    Hi Pat Gir qui,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community. We apologize for the inconvenience this has caused you.

To initially troubleshoot this issue, what I'd like you to do is to clear the display cache. Kindly visit this link https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4023496/surface-troubleshoot-connecting-to-a-second-screen and follow solution # 5. Once done, kindly restart your Surface device, unplug the cable that connects the external monitors and the dock and undock your Surface device. Then, re-establish its connection again and make sure that those cable are properly inserted/plugged.

If the issue persists, please check the dock's firmware if it is up to date and kindly update the firmware of the Surface dock if it is outdated. Please check this link>> https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-dock-firmware-update for instructions on how you can update the firmware of the Surface dock and to know the updated firmware version that should reflect in Device Manager.

If the link provided helps, feel free to mark this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if you need further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z

I have very similar problem that started this spring. The second monitor just turns off. Then on. Then off again, then on. Sometimes it stays on for a while, it's random.  Now what I get is that the picture on the second monitor is shaking horizontally. EXACTLY as described here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/forum/all/surface-book-2-external-screen-shaking-in/c9739a0f-3c8f-4c0e-afb4-0e0a1c4fc6e1 in both regular and studio mode.  Bullshitsoft just closed that ticket without giving any solutions.

    What I tried:

    1. Three different external monitors - same result.
    2. Three different USB hubs/connectors from USB-C  to HDMI  (both passive and active) - same result.
    3. Reinstalling NVIDIA drivers, Intel drivers, reinstalling Surface Book 2 drivers and firmware - same result.
    4. Running windows update - same result.
    5. Changing resolution and refresh rate - same result.
    6. Resetting SB2 to factory settings, wiping out all my **** from the laptop - same result.
    7. A different Surface Book 2, the one that is 13 inches connected to all the stuff mentioned above - works.

This BS affects my work. Any help would be appreciated.
