Surface Laptop 3 - Slow Connection Speeds at 5Ghz

Hi All:

Just got an i5 Surface Laptop 3 (sandstone) ... and having a huge problem with it.

All my devices getting 100 mbs on wifi at 5 Ghz ... except the SL3. It gets 1 mbs... which is unusable.

But when SL3 is connected at 2.4 Ghz instead on same router, it gets 50 mbs. It's an OK workaround, but begs the questions... what's wrong?

Called Surface support to no avail. Asked me to download the driver pack for Intel... which I did and problem persists.

Any ideas? Thank you,

Matt

    Hi stocktiki,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

Can you please check what is the current Driver version of the Intel Wi-Fi adapter of your Surface Laptop 3? Is it 21.40.1.3? To check go to Device Manager, expand Network Adapter. Right-click the Intel Wi-Fi adapter and choose Properties then go to the Driver tab.

Please try the steps provided on this page to troubleshoot the issue: Fix Wi-Fi connection issues in Windows.

    Hi stocktiki,

Thank you for the response. Were you able to try the steps given on the link I provided? I'll try to raise this issue internally and see what may have caused this. May we know what type of router are you using?

If possible, please try to connect the device to a different router with 5GHz bandwidth and check if the issue occurs also.

    Thanks.

    Kind Regards,

    Marrion Y.

    Hi Marrion:

Thank you. Yes, followed the steps and the problem continues. It is a Dlink DIr 859.

I will try to find another router.

    Hi stocktiki,

Thank you for the response. I would like to ask if your able to try connecting the Surface Laptop 3 to another router with 5GHz bandwidth? How was it?

I also got updates on our concern here and can you please try these steps also:

1: Update the firmware of your D-Link router (D-Link Technical Support)

2: Change the "802.11n/ac/ax Wireless Mode"

Open Device Manager, expand Network adapters

    Right-click on Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX201 and choose Properties

    Go to Advanced tab

On the left side, select "802.11n/ac/ax Wireless Mode"

On the drop down at the right, please try first setting it to 802.11ac

If it doesn't make any difference, try 802.11n

3: Test with a newer Wi-Fi driver version from Intel

Windows 10 Wi-Fi Drivers for Intel Wireless Adapters

    Kind Regards,

    Marrion Y.
