Surface Pro 3 Type Cover Not Recognized

I have a similar issue expressed in some other posts, just want to boost it up there to get some attention. My type cover is no longer recognized. I am not sure if this was associated with an update or not. Just opened it to use it and found zero functionality. So far, I have tried cleaning the contacts, doing a two button reset, downloading and installing the Surface Pro 3 firmware packages (Surface firmware tool .msi, 10586_1702002.msi, 14393_1702002.msi), a soft reset (kept personal files but lost system settings and apps). In device manager, under Keyboards, only HID Keyboard Device is listed, no mention ANYWHERE of the Surface type cover. Problem is definitely not with my type cover as it works on a friend's SP3 and his type cover also does not work on mine. Finally conceded that I must have somehow broken the contacts when I came across all the other forum entries with the same issue. Open to trying any other solutions- hoping not to need to do a hard reset and have personal files in limbo, that makes me nervous.

    Hi Kyle,

It seems that you've almost done everything to resolve the issue with your Surface Pro 3 not able to recognize the Type Cover.

Also, since you've already tried a known good Type Cover and gives you the same result, then we can say that this is a possible hardware issue. Performing a factory reset would be the best way verify this. However, this will wipe out all of your files.

In case you decide to do a factory reset, make sure that you back up all your data. Click on this link and refer to the Reset your Surface section.

If you were able to verify that the issue is a hardware failure, you have the option to get your Surface device serviced. For more information on how to get service for Surface, click on this link.

Feel free to post back if you have any concerns.
