looks like a big/clunky thing for a simple usb-c adapter...
Anybody tried putting surface connect to USB type C adapter on the tablet only?
I saw here after updating firmware, even Surface pro 4 will work with the "Surface connect to USB type C adapter."
I wonder if the Surface book 2, with the keyboard base detached, will work with the adapter AFTER firmware update. Verticle(Protrait) mode is very useful for me. Thanks for anyone who bother to take time testing this out.
Remember, you will need a USB type C PD(power delivery) power source of at least 30W, preferably 45+W, to charge the device.

2019-04-21T18:37:09+00:00 Is there a reason you don't want to power the tablet with the standard Surface power supply or dock?
You might want to speak with Microsoft tech support as apparently there is software or firmware for the adapter that is not available through Windows Update.

what is your source for this? Microsoft sometimes released firmware/drivers for
Surface to customers running Insiders builds prior to releasing to production.

2019-04-21T20:18:11+00:00 Barb, I did some searching for info on the adapter and found this. https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/Surface-IT-Pro-Blog/Announcing-availability-of-the-Surface-Connect-to-USB-C-Adapter/ba-p/329048 along with discussions in other forums. It looks like the required drivers are not universal and as of the end of 2018 the adapter did not work with the Surface Book.

2019-04-22T09:38:03+00:00 I can't connect the dots between the blog post and contacting support for
drivers.. The MSI files contain drivers that are released through WU and the
MSI's usually are posted sometime after initial availability on WU. In theory,
you plug in a peripheral and the correct driver should be automatically
downloaded from WU if not on the system, if available.
