    Hi Isla Bell,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the trouble this has caused you.

I am aware that you are experiencing issues with your Surface device, as the Bluetooth option is not present and is not listed among the drivers in Device Manager. I am here to help and let us work on this together. Let me ask some questions.

    • May I know what version of Windows you are currently running?
    • Were there any changes made prior to this happening?
    • Will you verify whether the Bluetooth category is there in Device Manager? Under the Bluetooth category, a Bluetooth driver should be listed.

Kindly try the following steps below to troubleshoot your device.

Force the device to shut down and restart.

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restart and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

    Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

Run the system file checker to check if there are corrupted system files that are just looping around causing this kind of issue to exist.  See Using System File Checker in Windows - Microsoft Support.

    Run the Bluetooth troubleshooter.

Select Start > Settings > System > Troubleshoot > Other troubleshooters. Next to Bluetooth, select Run and follow the instructions.

Manually update the drivers and firmware for your Surface.

    1. Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro.
    2. Then click the link next to Surface Pro 8 then click Download on the next page.
    3. Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.
    4. After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

If none of the solution works, you may need to reset your Surface using a USB recovery drive. A recovery drive image lets you reset your Surface to its factory settings and can help you troubleshoot and fix problems with your Surface device. This option will reimage the entire device and reload Windows including the drivers and firmware. It will wipe out everything on the device. See Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    hi there Lavenia,

thank you so much for helping.

i am pretty sure i am running windows 11.

no, there werent any changes prior to this happening. i just tried to connect my airpods one day and it was gone!

at first, i went into device manager and it was there. many suggestions told me to disconnect all devices, so i started and when i got halfway there it came up with a loading bit, and then suddenly it was gone. ive tried the troubleshooter but i will attempt the others now and fingers crossed they work!

    thank you!
