Does microsoft charge for shipping if warranty is rejected?

I've got bright spots on my screen and want to use warranty. The device has a wear mark (scratch on plastic frame bit near power button, I didn't drop it or anything i just noticed it one day) and I'm not sure whether it may count as physical damage. Will I be charged for shipping if microsoft would think so? Or can I ensure myself somewhere before sending it?

    Hi, MateuszObara!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry regarding the shipping of your Surface Pro (5th Gen) for an exchange.

If the device is within warranty and you send it in for replacement, it will be inspected at the service center. If ever it is determined by the technician's inspection that it is not for exchange, the device will be returned to you and you will not be charged for any shipping cost.

If this answers your question, please let our Community know by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind regards,

    Janette_Z
