Installing Win 11 from USB drive has NO mouse or touchscreen capabilities -So I can't progress past first installation screen.

A system file corruption issue has forced me to try to re-install Windows 11 on my Surface Pro 9.

I can't boot into the operating system from the machine, I get a constant blue screen error on every boot.

So,

I used Media Creation tool from a DIFFERENT Surface pro 9 to create a bootable win 11 usb drive.

I can get the problem unit to boot from this usb drive, the first windows installation screen shows up, but I have no mouse or touchscreen, or keyboard capabilities, so I can't get past the first screen. boot.

There is an option on media creation tool to include options from this computer. I have tried both with and without this box checked. No luck either way.

Can any one help?

    Hi BruceAZ,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

You are experiencing issues with your Surface Pro9 device, which is not booting to Windows. You attempted to create a recovery image from another Surface Pro9, but it did not work properly, and you are unable to use the mouse or touchscreen. This issue may be caused by the USB image not being recognized by the device or not functioning properly.

We’ll collaborate to identify the optimal resolution to this problem. We’ll proceed to download and install the recovery image on your Surface device, which will result in a fresh Windows installation tailored to your Surface Pro9.

To Download USB Recovery Image - http://aka.ms/sri

    REQUIREMENTS:

To ensure compatibility with your Surface device, it is recommended to use a USB flash drive with a minimum storage capacity of 16 GB to 32 GB and format it to FAT32. If the storage capacity exceeds 32 GB, it is not possible to format it to FAT32 as only XFAT and NTFS options are available. Please note that if a USB flash drive is formatted to XFAT or NTFS, it will not be detected on your Surface device. We need to use another Windows PC to download the recovery image.

NOTE: Creating a recovery drive will erase all existing files that are stored on the SSD drive. Make sure to transfer any important data on your USB flash drive to another storage device before you proceed.

Once the download is complete, create a folder on your desktop and rename it to ‘recovery’. Extract the recovery image to the folder you created on your desktop. After the extraction is complete, select all the files in the folder and copy and paste them directly to your USB flash drive. Do not copy the folder directly to the USB. Once the copying is done, remove the USB and connect it to your Surface.

When you are ready, please click this link Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support to follow the step on how to use the recovery image.

I hope I have answered all your questions. Please let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Christopher.
