Surface Go 2 Battery Life

Hello,

I have a Surface Go 2 that I bought in 04/2023. It states that the battery should last up to 17 hours with normal use; however, when charged it only says it only has 3.5 hours of battery life and drain 5% in 13 minutes which seems fast Is mine defective? I already have a battery-saver mode on it seems to drain very quickly. It's too late for me to return it, any help would be appreciated.

Hi Firefly Wave,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. Based on your description, we understand that you are not getting battery life promised for the Surface Go 2 and the battery seems to drain faster than usual.

The Surface Go 2 was advertised with up to 10 hours of battery life based on typical Surface device usage. Testing conducted by Microsoft in February 2020 using preproduction software and preproduction configurations of Surface Go 2. Testing consisted of full battery discharge with a mixture of active use and modern standby. The active use portion consists of (1) a web browsing test accessing 8 popular websites over multiple open tabs, (2) a productivity test utilizing Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook, and (3) a portion of time with the device in use with idle applications. All settings were default except screen brightness was set to 150 nits with Auto-Brightness disabled. Wi-Fi was connected to a network. Battery life varies significantly with settings, usage, and other factors. See: Surface Go 2 specs and features - Microsoft Support

Kindly go to Windows Settings > System > Power & Battery. Select View detailed info. Under Battery usage per app, check to see which app are affecting the battery life of the device. There are several sort options including "background" to help identify. Validate if there are any installed applications that may be using a lot of power.

Please make sure also that all updates are installed including Optional updates in Windows Settings > Windows Updates. Check also for the Surface drivers' health and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit to run some system checks and repairs then see if the battery life behavior improves. See this page for reference: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Support

You may also generate a battery report of the device for us to check on the battery status of the device. Follow these steps below to generate a battery report and share the report with us:

    Hi Firefly!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We're sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you. We're here to help and let's work on this together.

I understand you're having issues with your Surface device. Happy to help and provide more options here.

Before considering any troubleshooting options, please first make sure your device is up to date. To check for updates, just follow these steps:

Start> Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update> then check for updates and install any available updates.

Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit through this link Fix common Surface problems using the Surface app and Surface Diagnostic Toolkit - Microsoft Supportand complete task.

Most common reason for this issue is due to an outdated driver. Please update drivers and firmware, see through this link Download drivers and firmware for Surface - Microsoft Support on how to.

Please let us know how it goes. We look forward to hearing from you.

    Greetings,

    RodelioP.

    Hello,

I did as directed above. When I checked for updates it said I was up to date, however, when I ran the surface diagnostic toolkit it came up with this error message:

    Hi Firefly!

Thanks for getting back to us and apologies for the delayed response on this.

If that's the case, I highly suggest performing a recovery image reset on your Surface device. A recovery image reset reimages the entire device, including partitions on the hard drive. This is the most complete form of reset. This reset will remove all files and applications installed on your Surface device, so make sure you back up all your important documents. Before you begin, you need at least an empty 16GB/32GB USB flash drive and you need to format it to FAT32 before downloading the recovery image.

To continue, follow the detailed steps in Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support.

    Hope this helps!

    Regards,

    RodelioP.
