interesting.
the images at https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/accessories/surface-dock show it plugged in like your "not working" configuration. Out of curiosity, are you connecting to 2.4 or 5GHz Wifi (or do you have the issue with both)?

The surface dock connector can connect to the surface pro 4 either way, there is no back/front, top or bottom.
Ive found however that if i plug the connector into the surface with the wire out the bottom and little light at the top, wifi stops working.
It shows as connected but wont connect to any websites or allow any pinging.
if i turn the connector around, everything works fine.
Is this a known issue? is there a fix or do i have a defective unit?
The top image shows the connector plugged in when wifi works.
The bottom image shows it plugged in when wifi stops working.

Hi Barb.
Im actually not sure which frequency wiFi im using.
As background, i didnt have any issues until i installed hyperV, afterwhich, even if i disabled hyperV, wireless was very flaky.
Ive since completely uninstalled hyperV last night but that didnt solve the issue.
I just a few minutes ago reinstalled the surface drivers from here and that fixed the issue.
The connector is now plugged in with the wire facing down (previously the "not working Wifi Position"), and everything is working as expected, so happy days again!
Pity though that HyperV causes such issues. As I use hyper V in my daily job i need it on my portable machine and will probably result in me returning the surface.

issue is back again today after the surface being turned off all night.
Update: if i use the dock without an external monitor, the issue is not present it seems. Its very odd.
I wonder if it is the cable from the monitor that is causing an issue. Any chance you could try a different cable?
