Restoring a System Image Backup on Surface Pro 3

This summer I tried to upgrade from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 on my Surface Pro 3. The upgrade failed (the system couldn't find any network devices after the upgrade) and I had to restore to Windows 8.1, keeping my files, but needed to reinstall all apps and programs to get back to my original state. I am now very reluctant to retry the upgrade unless I can find a less time-consuming way to restore the system, should the upgrade fail.

I have found the option of taking a System Image Backup (in the left pane menu of File History in Control Panel).

If I have this System Image Backup ready on an USB-drive, is there any way to restore my Surface from it? I can't find any information on this specific case, just on restoring from a Recovery System Image, which I think is another thing. Does anybody know?

Thank you in advance,

Lars

    Thank you Barb,

The link might be helpful, but in my scenario Windows 10 is not working after the upgrade, so I will have to revert to windows 8.1 and try to restore from there. As I don't have Windows 10 available now, the bootable USB-disk that I can prepare will have Windows 8.1. Will the restore options described in the article be available in Windows 8.1 as well?
