Find Your Pen not working windows 11

Question

I can track the location of my Microsoft surface laptop but not the pen. It says no location data available for my pen and a notifcation that says "while this setting applies to everyone who uses this device, only adminstraors can make changes" im confused because this ismy personal machine so wouldnt i be the adminstrator?

May I know what model your Surface device is? See Find out which Surface model you have (microsoft.com) for more info.

In the meantime, to know if you have admin rights on your device, please go to Settings then click on the Accounts. Under Accounts section, you will Your Info on the right panel. Check whether it's logged in with an administrator account or not.

also i checked and i do have administator privileges but it still says no location data available

Thanks for keeping us posted, SofieCora.

Did you follow these steps prior this issue happen? This enables the tracker feature of the pen. (Open Settings > Update & Security > Find my Device > Select the Changebutton, and toggle on theSave my device's location periodicallyoption.) If you haven't enabled this, then the location data of your pen will not show.

yes i did that, i can see the location of my laptop itself, just not the pen

I have never seen Find My Pen be able to report a location. This has been the case for years. Even it worked, it would only tell you the location of your Surface the last time Bluetooth was connected. It wouldn't be able to pinpoint it to a specific place in your home like "under the table".
