Surface Dock & Surface USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter & IPv6 Issues

Verizon is in the process of enabling IPv6 for FiOS users.

Posts on Verizon's own help boards show that Intel-based NlCs have issues with IPv6. Intel is aware of the situation for a while but has not been able to resolve the issue.

One of the Category Leads over on the Verizon forums (Cang_Household) found a statement issued by Intel proposing a workaround. Intel is suggesting disabling IPv6 TCP Checksum Offload.

"I can now answer the question about IPv6 to the OP: you can 1) disable IPv6 at router level, 2) disable IPv6 at NIC level, 3) disable IPv6 TCP Checksum Offload (this is the root problem and suggested by Intel in the technical advisory)."

With all of this in mind, will I run into problems when Verizon enables IPv6 for me?

I have a Surface Laptop 1 and a Surface Pro 7. For Ethernet connectivity, I use a Surface Dock or a Surface USB 3.0 Gigabit Ethernet Adapter.

I believe the Surface adapters and docks use Realtek based Ethernet chips and drivers.

    Hi Barb!

Thank you for providing clarification. I'm hoping for a smooth transition from 4 to 6 within the next month or two. 🙂
