Hi

I have a new Surface Laptop Studio - Core i7, 16GB, NVIDIA 3050 GPU with Windows 11. The Haptic feedback is not working on either the touchpad or the Pen 2 I purchased with the device. The haptics are turned on in settings for both, and the intensity is turned up to max. I am up to date on windows updates. I have disconnected and then re-paired the pen. and have rebooted the computer again. I have tested with multiple apps, including Onenote and Whiteboard. Any suggestions?

    Hi John Hyatt2,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community. I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with the haptic feedback on your Surface Laptop Studio. I am here to help and let us work on this together.

    • May I know what version are your currently running and its build version?
    • Kindly check Device Manager for any driver errors?

Kindly try the following steps to troubleshoot the issue.

Force the device to shut down and restart.

Press and hold down the power button until your Surface shuts down and restart and you see the Windows logo screen (about 20 seconds), then release the power button.

    Check Windows Updates

Go to Settings >> Windows updates >> Check for updates.

Update or Reinstall driver in Device Manager.

    1. Open Device Manager
    2. Expand Firmware | Human Interface Devices | Mouse and Other Pointing Devices
    3. Look for the touch related drivers, and mouse drivers, right-click on each driver available and select "uninstall device". Please leave the box unchecked if a pop up shows up before you can uninstall the driver successfully. Once done, kindly restart your Surface device to reinstall the drivers automatically.

Unpair your pen and reinstall Bluetooth driver.

    1. To un-pair the pen, go to Settings > Devices > select Surface pen and choose Remove device.
    2. Then open Device Manager and reinstall the Bluetooth driver.
    3. In Device Manager, select Bluetooth. Press and hold (or right-click) the Bluetooth adapter name (which may include the word “radio”) and select Uninstall deviceUninstall. If prompt to permanently delete the driver, leave the box uncheck and select Uninstall device. Then restart your Surface and repair your pen.

Let me know how it goes.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    Thank you Lavenia,

I got on a chat with MS support. We ended up removing and reinstalling the pen a couple times, following the instructions to remove a "ghost" connection (based on instructions I'd found on the web I had already done this prior to the chat as well). I'm not sure what we did differently the second time but it worked and the pen is functioning now

    Thank you for the reply

    John
