I have the new Surface Laptop Studio 2 and every few minutes the mouse cursor gets really choppy and laggy for about 10-15 seconds. For context, this happens even when there are no applications running or windows open. It also happens both when using the trackpad and when using wireless mice. However, I’ve noticed it only happens on the SLS2 screen. If I’m docked using dual monitors and it’s lagging on the SLS2 screen, the instant the cursor moves to the monitor screen the lagging stops. Likewise, if I’m only using the cursor on an external monitor the lagging never occurs. Also, I’ve made sure all the drivers are updated.

The Windows version is 22H2, Edition: Windows 11 Home, and OS build: 22621.2506.

The issue can occur at any time, after being idle for a few seconds or during the middle of continuous use. And as mentioned before, it's only present when the cursor is on the SLS2 screen.

None of the steps above have helped the issue. Everything is up to date. I've also tried manually checking for driver updates and also deleted and reinstalled the 'Mice and other pointing devices' drivers.

It's kind of hard to get a video of this happening since by the time I can pull out my phone to record or open the Microsoft "snipping tool" and select the part of the screen to record, the choppiness has ceased. This said a new flagship computer over $3000 should not be having these issues or the plethora of other issues. I'm thinking there are possible hardware issues and think the solution may be to have Microsoft send me a new SLS2 and send this one back.

I'm using a new Surface Laptop Studio 2. When I'm taking notes, the touchscreen becomes unresponsive to the surface slim pen 2 for about 20-30 seconds. Neither the writing nor erasing will work. However, the screen is not frozen. This happens most often on OneNote regardless of the performance setting or if the laptop is plugged in. This happens a couple of times a day and then gets me behind in classes and note taking. I'm wondering if I received a lemon because this computer has been having a plethora of performance issues that really fly in the face of productivity... especially considering its a $3000+ flagship device.

Yes, everything is updated, drivers have been uninstalled and reinstalled, no malware, all applications are closed except for OneNote, 32g RAM, 1TB SSD, RTX-4050...

I'm using a new Surface Laptop Studio 2. When using the Surface Slim Pen 2 or any stylus for that matter, the accuracy when writing on the lower left quadrant of the screen is quite poor. Lines and letters that are written with smooth motions show up crisp and accurate on the rest of the screen, but in the lower left quadrant they almost always turn out squiggly and rugged. One of many issues with this device that tank productivity and usefulness.

    Hi NCR27,

I know it has been a couple of months since you last asked about this, but have you been able to fix the problem? I just bought my Surface Laptop Studio 2 a week ago, and I'm experiencing the same thing where every now and then, the cursor will glitch around for a few seconds when I try to move it. I realize it's probably just an issue with the SLS2, but there's still hope in asking.
