How do I get my laptop to charge?

I was studying when my water bottle tipped over. My laptop was in my backpack and my backpack got drenched but my laptop only got a little wet. It turned on and everything worked perfectly fine…until I had to charge it:

The charger lights up, but the laptop itself doesn’t charge. I’ve tried restarting, plugging the charger into different outlets. Nothing. Now it’s completely out of battery and won’t charge. I’m not sure what to do now.

I know it didn’t get completely soaked or drenched in water, water barely touched it. But maybe some water got into the ports? What do I do?

    Hi Seriblo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

It sounds like your laptop may have gotten water into the charging port or other internal components, which could be affecting its ability to charge even if it was only lightly exposed to water. Here are a few steps you can take to address the issue:

    • Check the Charging Port and Charger:
    1. Inspect the charging port with a flashlight for any visible debris or water droplets. You can use a dry, soft brush or compressed air (gently) to clean the port.
    2. Make sure the charging cable itself is dry and there’s no visible damage to the cable or the charger.
    • Charge your Surface using the power supply that was designed for your Surface or using a USB Type-C PD charger (for Surface devices that have a USB-C port). USB-C and Fast Charging for Surface - Microsoft Support
    • Select Start  > Power  > Shut down  and wait a moment for your Surface to shut down. Then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds. If you see the logo screen appear after a few seconds, continue to hold for the full 20 seconds until you see the logo screen again. See Force a shut down and restart your Surface for more info.
    • If your Surface still won't charge, submit a service order: There's one last step you can take. If these steps don't resolve the problem, service and support options may be available to assist you. How to get service or repair for Surface - Microsoft Support

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely
