Pen 'deadzone' when placing tip down

Having this weird issue with my pen on some programs and I can't seem to find anything about it on the web. It seems that whenever I place the pen down on the screen, there's a 2-3mm 'deadzone' that has to be crossed before the app registers the contact. https://webmshare.com/Pe9Ow

It's not lag because the pen is perfectly accurate after it's crossed that border. I've already disabled flicks, press-and-hold, etc. updated the surface firmware and Win10 too. Even had the Surface replaced because of a battery fault and the new one suffers the same issue.

It might be a software issue since microsoft apps and Clip Studio Paint don't have the issue but Zbrush, Blender and photoshop do. My Wacom tablets have never had problems like this, so I hope it's not considered normal, else I may as well switch to a regular laptop.

So question is how do I fix this?

Thank you for providing us an update. This behavior may be related to the pen issues that emerged from installing the recent Microsoft updates. To check this further, what exact version and OS build of Windows are you currently running on the Surface? You can get the information by opening Settings > System > About. Can you also check if the March 22, 2018 (KB4089848) or the April 10 security update (KB4093112) has been installed? To view your update history, follow these steps:

    1. In Settings, go to Update & Security.
    2. In the Windows Update screen, open View installed update history.

If you have WIndows 10 version 1709, I suggest you perform the suggested steps on this post to resolve the pen issue. The troubleshooting will apply the necessary registry modification on your Surface so the pen can function properly with the latest updates from Microsoft.

Come back if you need more help.

Frankly if I don't get a fix soon, I'm just going to sell the thing.

    Hi,

Based on your description, it is possible that you are experiencing compatibility and a software issue. Did you update your Surface device before this issue starts to happen? If not, have you considered installing the latest updates released this March? Also, follow the steps in this link to troubleshoot your Surface Pen. We will be waiting for your update.

    Thanks.

Do you have a link to the March updates? The firmware update pages show the last update was back in January.  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49498
