Surface Pro shows Windows logo for 1 second then turns itself off

Hi all,

I have a 5th gen Surface Pro that all the sudden stopped booting, when you try to turn it on the Windows logo appears for one second then immediately turns off. I've verified this because if you try it again even a few seconds after the same thing happens so it doesn't look like a dead screen or anything like that.

I've tried the following items already:

  • Tried connecting Ethernet adapter - no change
  • Tried plugging in Windows 10 recovery USB drive - no change
  • Tried holding down both volume buttons (separately) with power button - no change
  • Held power button down for over 2 minutes - no change
  • Tried using another power supply and dock to test - no change

It almost seems like the battery is dead and there's just enough battery for the logo to show, but if it was would the charger still be able run it or would it just refuse to start?

It could also be an issue with the firmware but if I can't even get it started can that be fixed? Of course the warranty just ran out last month so any suggestions are appreciated.

if you tried another power supply (NOT the dock), does the LED light up on the

tip of the cord or not? If yes, did you let it charge for 20 minutes or so

before trying to turn it on? If yes to these questions and you still have this

issue, you probably need an exchange. If you are in the US, you should go to the

    closest physical retail Microsoft Store

Thanks for the reply, I tried it with a separate power supply without the dock and the LED light does turn on, but even after leaving it plugged in for over an hour it's still doing the same thing. I will look into getting it repaired, thanks for the help.
